Laurel graduated cum laude from Birmingham-Southern College in 2000, followed by her work at the family business, Piedmont Fertilizer Company in Opelika.

She began her financial advising career by working for Edward Jones, where it became clear she was well-suited to the task of advising clients in achieving their financial goals. In 2018, Laurel co-founded Railroad Investment Group to provide more comprehensive and robust resources to clients and provide them with creative, efficient strategies to fulfill their various financial needs.

While Laurel’s devotion to her clients is unsurpassed, she is equally devoted to spending time with her husband Mike and son Sewell. An avid learner, she enjoys reading and experiencing new things, places and people. She serves as a board member for the Opelika Chamber of Commerce, Community Foundation of East Alabama, Boys and Girl’s Club of Greater Lee County and Women’s Philanthropy Board. Laurel also volunteers her time to teach financial literacy to seniors at Opelika High School.
